The film delves into Justin Bieber's personal life and follows him as he prepares for his New Year's Eve show on December 31, 2020 on the rooftop of the Beverly Hilton hotel. The concert was attended by 240 fans and live-streamed around the world. The film also includes self-shot footage by Bieber and his wife Hailey. Ratner previously directed Bieber's music video for "Intentions", and the documentary series Justin Bieber: Seasons (2020).This is his first show in 3 yrs and conducted with full Covid-19 protocols. Justin shot his own footage to keep camera crews to a minimum. He starts the day with a walk with Hailey. At the concert, There are issues as live-stream doesn't work (too many people try to log on at the same time). Concert kicks off at 8 : 45 pm Guests at the hotel watch from their balconies to maintain distance.DEcember was worst month for the pandemic in US. Cases were rising and all music and concerts were on hold. Given the lack of open venues, Justin attempted to host the concert on the roof of the Beverly Hilton in LA and stream it live to 150 countries. Chris Gratton is the show designer and producer. 30 days to concert and the roof has a weight restriction, since it was built in the 1950's. So, they had to design a large structure, which was also very light. Candace is the safety officer and the Covid officer. A tight bubble was maintained.28 days to concert. Nick DeMoura is the creative director. Rehearsals starts. No rehearsals at the hotel, as that will give away the show. Nick started as a back up dancer in Justin's group and rose up to become his choreographer. Justin is very loyal to his group and some of them have been with him for over 10 yrs. Lauren Walters is the Director of Operations and Security (he has been with Justin for 11 yrs now). Bernard "Harv" Harvey is also a long time dancer in Justin's group Rory Kramer is the Videographer. Over time Justin has walked into a leadership role to keep the group together and working in sync towards a singular goal. Justin was a child when he started and has since grown into a man, and then became a husband. Justin is shown as really committed to his family. He feels safe in his inner circle of family and friends.26 days to concert. First rehearsals on stage. Band and dancers together. 21 days to concert and Nick DeMoura tests positive for Covid. He has to quarantine for 14 days and miss rehearsals. He works from home and sends notes to the team to practice. Enter crew has to get tested every morning. There is no other work, so everybody is really respectful about the Covid rules. 14 days to concert. Nick is still recovering from home. the stage is transferred to the hotel. 8 days to go and the stage goes up on the roof. Nick joins the group back. They get go ahead for using Pyro tech on stage at the show.6 days to concert and a thunder and lightening shower hits LA. So, now the crew has to delay prep by one day. 0 days to concert. show day. Hailey uses humidifiers in the room before sleeping so Justin wakes up with a clear throat. 12 hrs to the show, as Justin goes for the walk with Hailey. Justin wants to have a kid in 2021, Hailey is not too sure. Every ounce on stage has been accounted for, so that they don't over burden the structure of the hotel. Drones are deployed for filming and security. Justin selects his wardrobe for the stage. Pants, shirts, hoodies, shoes and jewelry.. Everything is carefully selected. 45 mins before the show, there are dramas with the live-stream and the show is pushed out by an hour. It has to end by 10 PM (as per cut off guidelines of local admin).. The IT team cannot give a real estimate of when of the problem with the servers will be fixed. Decision is made to go at 8 45 pm, no matter what. The concert completes without a hitch. It takes a lot of people to put together a show. The crew celebrates new years at the hotel.
